Embracing the Warmth of Raleigh

Raleigh, NC always welcomes visitors warmly but perhaps no more so than when the area says “goodbye” to chilly temperatures. Southern charm is at its best in Raleigh as spring temperatures arrive and the fun lasts for months! One of the many reasons Speight Built Custom Homes loves designing the perfect properties in Raleigh is the city’s friendly climate. Not sure where to begin your adventures? There are no wrong answers when it comes to embracing Raleigh’s warmth!

Outdoor Adventures:

One of the most iconic stops in Raleigh is Pullen Park. As one of the country’s oldest amusement parks, visitors flock to ride the historic carousel, take a spin in a pedal boat, or ride the miniature train as it tours the entire park. Pullen Park has acres of green space for picnics, playgrounds for kids, and a quaint cafe. This beautiful park is not to be missed!

The Raleigh Rose Garden has been wowing visitors since 1951 with its sixty rambling rose beds. The best time to view the blooms is from May to October. The Raleigh Little Theater sits adjacent to the Rose Garden creating a unique opportunity for a garden stroll followed by a quality show.

Dorothea Dix continues its popular outdoor yoga series on Monday evenings among its gorgeous fields of daffodils. This unique way to find one’s peace is a favorite among residents and visitors alike.

Home to miles of gorgeous greenways, residents of Raleigh are always just minutes away from their local trail. Most popular? Neuse River Trail stretches over thirty miles perfect for biking, fishing, hiking, or a simple stroll. Along the trail? There are several places to drop in a kayak or start a lazy day of tubing with friends.

Water enthusiasts flock to Raleigh’s lakes year-round. Whether paddleboarding at Lake Johnson, water-skiing on Jordan Lake, or canoeing across Falls Lake there are memories to be made! For those who’d rather enjoy the water from afar, the areas surrounding the lakes are equally inviting with trails for hiking, picnic spots, and even campgrounds.

Strawberry picking is a rite of spring passage and Raleigh is ripe with the best! Head to DJ’s Berry Patch, Page Farms, or Phillips Farms to pick your own. Short of time, pick up a box from the State Farmers Market, Moore Square Market, or Cary’s Downtown Farmers Market.

Dining Out:

Warm weather signals restaurants across Raleigh to set up outdoor dining as patrons prefer to eat and drink al fresco. And, with a thriving brewery scene in and around downtown, there are craft beer options for every tastebud.

Food Trucks are back! Several times per season, downtown Raleigh invites food trucks to take over its streets for a pedestrians-only delicious day filled with culinary delights. This is the perfect way to enjoy a variety of food with a one-stop experience. Food Trucks aren’t limited to Raleigh, many of its surrounding communities host their own Food Truck Rodeos regularly throughout the warmer months.

For a spectacular view of the capital city, head to one of its many rooftop bars or restaurants. This is the perfect way to spend a special evening enjoying delicious food while witnessing unbelievable sunsets.

Sports and Entertainment:

Raleigh’s vibrant music scene kicks up a notch as spring begins and open-air venues re-open for concerts and festivals. From local bands playing on your neighborhood bar’s outdoor patio to favorite songwriters setting up at one of several local amphitheaters, there will be no shortage of music this sunny season!

Take me out to the ballgame? Yes! With two semi-professional teams in the area and numerous collegiate teams taking the fields, it is possible to catch a baseball game nearly every day of the week. Don’t forget to bring your mitt as you might just nab a fly ball.

The Carolina Courage, a professional soccer team, is famous for both its winning tradition and memorable theme nights. The atmosphere is perfect for a night out with friends or family!

Did you know that the Triangle is also home to a professional Ultimate Frisbee team? The Carolina Flyers take to the field throughout the summer, and they are not to be missed. Ultimate Frisbee is a sport on the rise with games that are fast-paced and full of entertainment.
